Der Krieger und die Kaiserin

This modern fairy tale is a love story between a soldier and an empress. Except that the soldier happens to be a thief planning a bank job. Add an empress who has lived all her life in an asylum and you got ingredients for a great movie. This couple meets on the street, he saves her life and disappears. She recovers in the hospital and starts looking for this mysterious man and finds him – only to find out that he is more interested in his bank job than her. Not surprisingly, she just happens to be in the bank when the bank job goes all bananas. She helps him to escape and hides him in the asylum where things again get interesting…

Seems to me that Tom Tykwer has very unique and stylish movies, judging by Lola Rennt and this. Franka Potente and Benno Fürmann manage to fully express the lost-in-life main characters and the story is unpredictable and a bit weird. Maybe because of the weirdness, I liked this movie a lot. So much, that I gave it a whole five stars.
